It’s back! The Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival. I always say this is my favorite nine days of the year. It’s the time of year that reminds me how proud I am to be a Rochesterian and to work for Xerox.
I was born and raised here in Rochester, New York and I certainly have heard all the negative things people have to say about living here, but I have never understood why. The XRIJF is a reflection of everything the city and its people are meant to be year round. And I couldn’t be prouder to be part of a company that works with the festival producers to bring it to life and ultimately show thousands of people what living in Rochester is all about.
When we started working with the festival in 2008, Xerox’s focus and how we worked with the festival was more about our printing technology in all of its forms – from office to production. But now, we are working with them in ways that mirror who Xerox is today. We still provide their printing needs, of course – but we also get to tap into the services side of our business by providing application-based technology and services solutions. Through tools like our JazzFinder application, we can help jazz fans find their favorite artists and where they are playing, discover new faves through listening stations, download date, time and location to their smart phone calendars and share with friends through Twitter and Instagram.
We also have an exciting photo experience this year – one that you typically see at the Grammy’s or the Oscars on the red carpet and we have married it with our Phaser7800 and personalization software from XMPie. Visitors get a digital “video” to share with all of their friends and for a small donation to the Jazz Scholarship fund, a personalized flip book or poster commemorating their experience in 2013. This is cool stuff that people don’t necessarily look to Xerox for. I love that we are doing things that are unexpected and surprise people. But more importantly, I love that I can showcase the dedicated work of Xerox people and partners at a world class festival in the city I am proud to call home. What more could anyone ask?
