There are many definitions of what is hip, but in Indiana it means the Healthy Indiana Plan, the state’s unique approach to Medicaid in which members are empowered as healthcare consumers.

Under HIP, members contribute to an account similar to a Health Savings Account, and they receive additional benefits for using preventive care. This consumer-directed model can provide new incentives for members to take personal responsibility for their health.

Xerox has supported HIP successfully for several years, assisting with eligibility determinations, as well as providing business process services and support, among others.

The HIP has become more successful since its launch and the recipient population has dramatically increased. Indiana has begun a new phase of its program (dubbed “HIP 2.0”) that will provide additional incentives for members taking advantage of preventive care options and more – and more support from Xerox.

Our Government Healthcare Solutions team has updated a case study that offers full details about Xerox’s role in Indiana’s human services transformation, including:

  • 48 percent reduction in error rates for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)by 48 percent;
  • 95 percent improvement of decision timeliness for all programs, up from 75 percent;
  • Reduced backlogs by two-thirds;
  • Serving a recipient population that increased from 943,343 in 2007 to over 1.3 million in 2015.
